HKEx has recently concluded the amendments in ESG Reporting Code (Code) which will come into effect from financial year beginning on or after 1 January 2025. Under the new Code, listed companies are required to disclose their GHG emission Scope 1 and 2. For larger listed companies, they are also required to, either on a mandatory or ‘comply or explain’ basis, disclose on climate-related information. What’s more, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) has just released an exposure draft on the HKFRS S1 and S2 (Standards) for public consultation. The proposed Standards are expected to come into effect from 1 August 2025.

While disclosure obligations are inevitable where companies need to invest time and resources in gathering and disclosing sustainability related financial and non-financial information, sustainability or ESG itself could mean more than just fulfilling disclosure requirements.

Nowadays, companies are operating in a complex environment which brings a lot of challenges to a company’s business operation such as supply chain disruption, stakeholder activism, change in customers’ expectations, compliance, etc. To navigate in the evolving landscape and enhance business resilience, companies need to formulate sustainability strategy that could help them to overcome these challenges and at the same time creating value for the company.

The workshop series
We are going to organise a series of workshops covering different industries, with relevant case studies, to understand:
  • Identification and responses on sustainability challenges
  • Identification of climate transition risks
  • Integration of sustainability in operations
  • Governance structure for managing sustainability risks and opportunities
  • Creation of value out of sustainability practices
During the workshop, group discussion will be followed for participants to discuss sustainability related matters and concerns.
