Fanny Hsiang is a director, and the Head of Technical and Training of BDO. She provides advisory services to the firm's assurance practice, facilitates the proper application of professional standards and supervises the firm's training and development programmes for professional personnel.
Fanny has accumulated over 15 years of experience in technical departments of international firms. She has extensive experience in financial reporting and assurance related work. She specialises in financial reporting support in relation to Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards, International Financial Reporting Standards and Hong Kong Companies Ordinance requirements.
In April 2014, Fanny was appointed by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation as a member of the Small and Medium-sized Entities Implementation Group (SMEIG) for three years from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2017. In July 2017, she was reappointed to serve a second three-year term ending 30 June 2020. The SMEIG is an advisory body to the International Accounting Standards Board. Its mission is to support the international adoption of the IFRS for Small and Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs) and to monitor its implementation. One of the key responsibilities of the SMEIG is to provide recommendations to the IASB throughout comprehensive review of the IFRS for SMEs. The appointment was made based both on the qualifications of the individual applicant and the need to achieve a professional and geographical balance in the membership of the SMEIG.
